WORKSHOPS AS MENTIONED BELOW WILL REPLACE AST 2010
SECTIONS
The sections are divided into two categories: Seeking Representation & Represented Talent.
Entrants who do not have an agent will choose the Seeking Representation category.
Entrants with representation will choose the Represented Talent category.
Actors who are currently represented but are interested in seeing if there is any other interest in them (changing agents), may enter the Seeking Representation category.
Seeking Representation Category
Unrepresented actors may choose to enter one, two, three or all four of the following sections:
Monologue
TV Commercial
Sitcom
Soap Opera
The cost of each section is $57.20 (including GST).
The Seeking Representation sections are open to actors aged three to mature adult.
Seeking Representation entrants must submit one colour 8 x 10 headshot with their online enrolment form. This headshot will be displayed in the AST Book. (This is to be professionally taken – no school photos). The headshot must be 8 inches x 10 inches (standard headshot size) and no larger than 300KB.
Seeking Representation sections will be judged by a panel of theatrical agents. Each section will be scored on a scale from 1-100. The top scoring Seeking Representation entrants will perform in the Top 50 on Sunday 10 January in front of an audience including casting directors, managers, theatrical agents, family and friends. (Please note that the minimum score for the Top 50 is 80%.) Entrants will also be notified if any of the judges would like to meet them for a one-on-one meeting. These ‘go-sees’ will take place on Sunday 10 January after the Top 50.
Monologue Section
Entrants will prepare a monologue of their own choosing and present it to camera. The monologue can be presented in natural voice or with an accent. The MAXIMUM time limit is one minute. Time will be called and you will lose 50% of your mark if you exceed time, no matter how good it is. No props are allowed. The monologue may be performed sitting or standing. Please ensure that your monologue is age appropriate.
TV Commercial Section
Entrants will choose a TV commercial from a selection on the AST website. The script will be presented in the entrant’s natural voice. One simple prop is allowed. The scripts will be posted on the website in November.
Sitcom Section
Entrants will choose a sitcom script from a selection on the AST website. The script will be performed with a reader. Scripts will be posted on the website in November.
Soap Opera Section
Entrants will choose a soap opera script from a selection on the AST website. The script will be performed with a reader. Scripts will be posted on the website in November.
Represented Talent Category
Represented Talent entrants may choose from among the following sections:
Junior Actor
Commercial Actor
Screen Actor
Presenter
Represented Talent entrants may enter more than one section. Please note the age requirements of each section. The cost of each section is $220 (including GST).
The Represented Talent sections will be judged by a panel of casting directors and industry professionals. Each section is divided into four parts. The entrant will be scored on each part. The top scoring Represented Talent entrants will perform in the Top 50 on Sunday 10 January in front of an audience including casting directors, managers, theatrical agents, family and friends. JUNIOR ACTOR
Junior Actor section is for dynamic young performers with current representation. Actors must be able to memorize lines and take direction. Entrants must be between the ages of three and seven as at 10 January 2010. Actors complete all four components.

Part Three: Commercial Print
The judges will view two previously submitted colour photos (one headshot and one full-length body shot) on the projection screen to show the entrant as a commercial print artist. Entrants must submit these photos with their enrolment form. Each photo is worth five marks, if you only submit one photo, your mark is out of five.

Part Four: TVC Direction
A casting director will direct the entrants on their previously performed TV commercial. No costumes or props are allowed. Points are scored for how well the entrant takes the direction.

COMMERCIAL ACTOR
Commercial Actor section is open to actors who wish to further their career in the TV Commercial Industry. The emphasis is on the ability to promote a product, service or cause. Entrants must be aged eight and over by 10 January 2010. Actors complete all four components.

Entrants will choose a feature film script from a selection on the AST website. The script will be performed with a reader. No costumes are allowed. One small prop is acceptable. Scripts will be posted on the website in November. Entrants can sit or stand to deliver.

PRESENTER
Presenting is a specialised field that ranges from TV journalism to variety shows to everything in between. Presenter section will highlight the individual’s unique style. Entrants must be aged 16 and over by 8 January 2010. Presenters complete all four components.
Part One: Presenting Style
Entrants write an original lifestyle, weather, sports, news, travel or kids show piece (maximum 90 seconds) and present it to camera. This can be presented in their natural voice or with an accent. No costumes are allowed but props are permitted if appropriate.

A judge will direct the entrants on their presenting style piece.

Part Three: Auto Cue
Entrants will stand in front of an auto cue machine (teleprompter) and read the provided script. They will get one read through, then put down the take.
